(The society that is coming our way is different, we hardly know or can imagine it; we should even fear it).

(Today the Chilean Congress is different. Or so it seems. It begins to leave behind a manner of conducting politics, of distancing itself from the people, through new, fresh faces. These can make mistakes and, surely, will be wrong a thousand times – but this is part of change and adaptation).

(We see them passionate, fighting for rights, working and running back and forth, worried about the future and, especially, about making their work meaningful. Here I stop, because I see them looking for new answers to old problems, even if they do not dare to yet say so).

Y aparecen declaraciones, reflexiones, comentarios, debate. Se discute y se piensa.

(We are living through, although perhaps we do not see it, a moment of drastic change in our leadership. From every angle, transversally as some call it, ideological paradises begin to die. Neither Cuba nor Pinochet are mirrors to look into today. It is expressed by Gabriel Boric and Jaime Bellolio, but there is more. Statements, reflections, comments, and debate appear. It is discussed and thought).

(There is a Francisco Undurraga, who far from being silent, raises his voice to cross borders, from the ceremony in La Moneda to the NO ceremony, without complexities, with the same intensity with which he criticizes the Kast and van Rysselberghe journey to support Bolsonaro. Despite that he integrates “Chile Vamos”, the same coalition as those mentioned, he says, without hesitation, that the Brazilian ultra-rightist figure personifies all the reasons for which he did not get involved in politics. For this motive, he defines the aspirational right party: different, inclusive, tolerant and modern. On the left, similar voices to his emerge, questioning the once unquestionable and beginning to break through the molds and revolutionary clichés that often led to an abyss. Old answers to even older problems).

(The society that is coming our way is different, we hardly know or can imagine it; we should even fear it. Israeli Yuval Noah Harari argues in his book, “21 lessons for the 21st century”, that the greatest challenges for our species are coming and that we are facing an economic, political and social crisis. «The merger of infotech and biotech might soon push billions of humans out of the job market and undermine both liberty and equality» or that “big data algorithms might create digital dictatorships in which all power is concentrated in the hands of a tiny elite while most people suffer not from exploitation but from something far worse—irrelevance).

(That is why it is good that we have representatives in Congress who can look each other in the eye, without yesterday’s distrust— so that they can talk about the issues that are coming our way).
